317 Main’s Director of Music Education, Chris Moore, was interviewed on the CBC Radio Day 6 program for his efforts to preserve the Shaker songwriting tradition.  The Shakers were in the news last week after Sister Frances Carr, one of the last 3 members of the community, died at the age of 89. Moore has been fascinated by Shaker music since the first time he heard them sing in the meetinghouse at Sabbathday Lake more than 30 years ago.

He has since had the privilege of reviewing the vast collection of songs-more than 10,000 in all-that are stored in their village library. Chris leads a singing group devoted to Shaker music that performs on occasion.
