About
Embracing the power of music: It can make us laugh, cry, dance and sing. It can help us believe in ourselves again and connects us to one another across differences, distance, and space.
Welcome to 317 Main
317 Main Community Music Center brings the power of music to people of all ages, abilities, and backgrounds from across southern and mid-coast Maine. We were founded in 2004 on the idea that music can engage, vitalize, and strengthen human connections in our communities.
Today, we provide music education and connection through music lessons, group classes, jam sessions, ensembles, workshops, summer camps, performances and whatever else we can dream up - both at our studios in Yarmouth and with our community Partnership Programs throughout Maine.
No matter where your musical interests lie, we offer a supportive and welcoming environment dedicated to musical discovery and personal growth.
OUR MISSION
317 Main encourages creative expression, personal growth, and community connection through music.
We believe in the power of music
Playing music improves our ability to learn, communicate and listen at every stage of life. It relieves stress and fosters joy. We believe that creative expression is an inherent right for all, and we strive to provide music-making opportunities that encourage people to find their voices and tell their stories. By creating an inclusive, multi-generational learning environment we are reducing barriers to music education and enrichment opportunities.
OUR VISION:
317 Main envisions a community made stronger through universal access to the transformative power of music to create, connect, and communicate.

Our Facility
317 Main has been located in beautiful downtown Yarmouth, Maine since its founding in 2004. Having radically outgrown our current space, our new building is currently under construction. The expansion project will allow 317 to have a new concert hall, cafe, music recording studio, and much more.
Handicap parking is on Mill Street next to the building. Our entrance has a ramp and our first floor is ADA accessible. Please let us know when registering for a class or visiting 317 Main for the first time if you need specific accommodations. We are excited to have our new building be fully ADA accessible. Please call or email us at any time with further questions or concerns.

Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Accessibility
317 Main formed a DEIA Task Force in May 2020 to develop a shared understanding of what diversity, equity, and inclusion mean to 317 Main and work to integrate these values into daily life at 317 Main.
Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Accessibility Statement
317 Main Community Music Center (317 Main) strives to create inclusive programming and equitable access to music education for all who would like to participate. We recognize that we still have a lot of work to do. As educators and community leaders, we want to ensure an inclusive environment for our students and their families, staff and teaching artists, and the broader community.
Together, we have a responsibility to:
Ensure that 317 Main is a safe and inclusive community, where racism and other forms of oppression are not acceptable.
Ensure that our community is represented in our board, staff, and teaching artists.
Foster a sense of responsibility around the ongs we’re playing and teaching.
Constantly remain aware, diligent, and hold ourselves accountable to these principles.
We are committed to doing the work to make these values part of every decision made across the organization, and to supporting our staff, board, and teaching artists in actively working against racism and other forms of oppression within the organization. This work is a high priority for our Board governance committee. We have formed a Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) Task Force to define what these terms mean to 317 Main, and to review our policies, procedures, and programs to identify opportunities for change and ongoing improvement. We invite members of our community to be a part of the conversation.
